Acute Pericardial Disease

چکیده
Acute pericardial diseases include acute pericarditis and cardiac tamponade. Both conditions can be associated with acute hemodynamic instability or cardiac failure and require immediate diagnostic workup and treatment. The pericardium surrounds the heart with two layers. The outer fi brous layer is called the parietal pericardium; the inner layer, which covers the cardiac surface, is the serous visceral pericardium. The pericardium is attached to the sternum and diaphragm by ligamentous bindings. Up to 50 mL of fl uid produced by visceral pericardial cells is normally present in the pericardial space (1). The pericardium can be affected by a wide variety of microorganisms, a nonspecifi c infl ammatory process, and various heart and systemic diseases. Irrespective of the etiology, clinical manifestations of the pericardial diseases correspond the pericardial infl ammation, pericardial effusion with cardiac tamponade, and pericardial constriction due to calcifi cations (2).

Tuberculous Pericarditis Causing Severe Pericardial Effusion: A Case Study
Aims Tuberculous pericarditis is present in only one to two percent of the tuberculosis cases, i.e. considered rare. The disease is responsible for 4% and 7% of acute pericarditis and cardiac tamponade cases, respectively. Moreover, these conditions are associated with hazardous side effects. Thus, timely and precise diagnosis of the disease could prevent such complications. Case report We rep...
متن کاملNode-First Kawasaki Disease Presented with Marked Pancarditis: a Case Report
Kawasaki disease is an acute inflammatory disorder of medium-sized arteries that predominantly affects cardiac coronary arteries and children under the age of 5 years. Cardiac involvement usually happens later than 10 days after the onset of illness. Most of cardiac complications are coronary artery abnormalities (ectasia or aneurysms) and subclinical myocarditis. Clinical myocarditis (symptoma...
متن کاملPericardial effusion in End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD): Report of 8 cases and review of the literature
Backgrounds: Pericardial effusion, once common among dialysis patients, has become a rare entity in recent years. Due to its low incidence, its recognition has gained importance among internists, cardiologists, and nephrologists. It can be seen in pre-dialysis patients and in dialysis patients who are on hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis. Methods: A retrospective study was performed. The sub...

متن کاملA Case of Partial Congenital Pericardial Defect Presenting as Acute Coronary Syndrome
Congenital pericardial defects are rare and asymptomatic for both partial and complete defects. However, some patients can experience syncope, arrhythmia, and chest pain. When a patient experiences a symptom, it may be caused by herniation and dynamic compression or torsion of a heart structure including the coronary arteries. Diagnosis of a congenital pericardial defect may be difficult, espec...
